ISO14064 Greenhouse Gas Verification Statement
Climate change caused by human activities has become one of the biggest challenges facing the world and will continue to affect business operations and people's daily lives for decades. This change not only has an impact on humans and natural systems, but may also have profound effects on resource availability, economic activities, and human well-being. To address this challenge, both public and private sectors are actively developing and implementing measures at the international, regional, national, and local levels aimed at reducing greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere and promoting measures to adapt to climate change. Based on existing scientific knowledge, we need to make effective and gradual responses to the urgent threat of climate change.
ISO has developed a series of documents aimed at transforming scientific knowledge into practical tools for addressing climate change. The action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions relies on the quantification, monitoring, reporting, and verification of greenhouse gas emissions and/or removals. The ISO 14060 series of standards provides clarity and consistency for quantifying, monitoring, reporting, and verifying greenhouse gas emissions and removals, thereby supporting the development of a low-carbon economy, promoting sustainable development, and benefiting organizations, project initiators, and stakeholders worldwide.
Specifically, the use of the IS014060 series:
Enhance the environmental integrity of greenhouse gas quantification;
Improve the credibility, consistency, and transparency of greenhouse gas quantification, monitoring, reporting, verification, and confirmation;
Promote the development and implementation of greenhouse gas management strategies and plans;
Promote the development and implementation of mitigation actions by reducing emissions or enhancing removals;
Helps track performance and progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and/or increasing greenhouse gas removals.
The applications of the IS014060 series include:
Enterprise decision-making, such as identifying emission reduction opportunities and improving profitability by reducing energy consumption;
Risk and opportunity management, such as climate related risks including financial, regulatory, supply chain, product and customer, litigation, reputational risks, and business opportunities (such as new markets, new business models);
Voluntary initiatives, such as participating in voluntary greenhouse gas registration or sustainability reporting initiatives; The greenhouse gas market, such as the buying and selling of greenhouse gas quotas or credits:
Regulatory/government greenhouse gas programs, such as early action credits, agreements, or national and local reporting statements.
The HanDe certification greenhouse gas verification statement follows the second edition of the international standard ISO 14064-1 (Chinese version, released in December 2018), namely "Greenhouse gases - Part 1: Guidelines for quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions and removals at the organizational level". This document elaborates on the principles and requirements for designing, developing, managing, and reporting organizational level greenhouse gas inventories. The content covers determining the boundaries of greenhouse gas emissions and removals, quantifying the amount of greenhouse gas emissions and removals organized, and establishing specific company actions or activity needs aimed at optimizing greenhouse gas management. In addition, the document also includes relevant requirements and guidance on inventory quality management, reporting, internal auditing, and the organization's responsibilities during the verification process.
