ISO26262 Road Vehicle Functional Safety Management System
The certification of the road vehicle functional safety management system is based on the "Road Vehicle Functional Safety ISO 26262 Standard", which provides technical support for the overall development process of automotive functional safety, including requirement planning, design, implementation, integration, verification, confirmation, and configuration.
ISO 26262 is a functional safety standard specifically designed for automotive electronics, electrical, and software, developed by numerous international vehicle manufacturers (such as Volkswagen, BMW, Volvo, General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc.) and automotive suppliers (such as Bosch, Continental, TRW, etc.) based on the ISO/IEC 61508 standard. The standard was first officially released in 2011 and the latest second edition was released in 2018.
In the era of new energy, cars are becoming increasingly electronic and electrified, facing increasing risks due to electronic system failures. The ISO 26262 Road Vehicle Functional Safety Management System certification helps car companies, component manufacturers, and automotive semiconductor chip manufacturers consider risks during product development and minimize design and safety risks. Implementing ISO 26262 has become a trend in the automotive industry.
ISO 26262 applies to all activities of safety related systems consisting of electronic, electrical, and software components on road vehicles throughout their entire safety lifecycle. ISO 26262 is for enterprises to:
(1) Defined an automotive safety lifecycle (management, development, production, operation, service, scrapping) and supported the tailoring of necessary activities during these lifecycle stages;
(2) Provided a risk-based analysis method to determine the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL);
(3) Apply ASIL to define the applicable requirements in ISO 26262 to avoid unreasonable residual risks;
(4) The requirements for confirmation and recognition measures have been established to ensure that a sufficient and acceptable level of security is achieved;
(5) Provided specific requirements related to suppliers.
ISO 26262 is the specific application of IEC 61508 (International Standard for Functional Safety) in the field of road vehicles, applicable to all safety related systems composed of electrical, electronic, and software elements that provide safety related functions. It provides a specific risk assessment method (ASIL) for determining risk levels and ensures that sufficient and acceptable security levels are obtained through effective measures.
